A woman who died in a Boxing Day car crash in Prebbleton has been named by police as Rebecca Thoms.

Thoms, 34, died after two cars crashed on Birchs Rd, south of Christchurch, at about 6pm on December 26.

Two people were also taken to hospital with moderate injuries.

A police spokesperson on Friday said police are still investigating the cause of the crash, and their thoughts were with Thoms’ loved ones.

Thoms, whose funeral was held on Friday, leaves behind her partner, Nick, parents Colin and Bronwyn, and a number of siblings.

The family shared the news of Thoms’ death with her friends around the world on Facebook.

They wrote: “There are a lot of unknowns at this stage but it’s important that all of you know.

“With all of Rebecca’s travel, she met, cared for and loved everybody, every wine, every laugh and every experience she got to enjoy.

“Please surround yourself with loved ones.”
