Two children in hospital following Hawke's Bay crash

Two children are in a critical and serious condition after a crash on State Highway 5 north of Napier on Sunday afternoon saw five people transferred to hospital.

A spokesperson for Hawke's Bay District Health Board confirmed the children's status, with a girl in a critical condition in ICU in Hawke's Bay, and a boy transferred to Auckland's Starship Hospital in critical condition.

An Auckland DHB spokesperson said his condition was now serious on Monday afternoon.

Two adults, a female in her 30s and a male in his 50s, were in a serious but stable condition in Hawke's Bay Hospital.

A teenager was in a stable condition.

Police were notified of the crash at the intersection of the Napier-Taupō Rd (State Highway 5) and Mcvicar Rd, shortly after 4pm.

They said it was a single-vehicle crash with a car going into a tree.

Seven people lost their lives in four separate crashes on the notorious stretch of road between December 2019 and May 2020.
