Motorcyclist stable after serious crash on SH6

A motorcyclist is in a critical condition after a crash on State Highway 6 near the Rai Valley Saddle.

A motorcyclist is in a stable condition after a serious crash near Nelson on State Highway 6.

The rider was in a critical condition when he was flown to Nelson Hospital after the crash on Thursday evening.

Emergency services responded to the crash on Rai Valley Saddle, near Opouri Rd and Kokorua Rd, about 6.29pm. The motorcycle was the only vehicle involved.

The road was closed and motorists were advised to take a different route.

The Serious Crash Unit were at the scene until 10pm and the road was reopened after that.

St John spokesman Gerard Campbell said the male rider was flown to Nelson Hospital by the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter in a serious to critical condition.
