Powerball jackpot not struck, rolls over to $38 million in Wednesday's draw

Lotto plays with the fantasy of winning the jackpot in a very whimsical way, while upturning stereotypes of sole parenting, family and concepts of wealth.

The Powerball jackpot has hit $38 million after punters missed out on Saturday evening.

The prize has rolled over to Wednesday night and if struck, it would be the second biggest prize won in New Zealand, a Lotto spokesperson said.

The biggest ever Powerball prize was $44m from a ticket bought at Dairy Flat Food Mart and Liquor in Auckland.

Earlier on Saturday, Lottos stores reported brisk trading as Kiwis bought up large ahead of Saturday's $32m Powerball jackpot.

After the draw punters rushed to check their tickets on the MyLotto site, causing it to overload.

'MyLotto is currently experiencing high demand and some customers may have trouble accessing the site,' said a note on the website.

'We're sorry for any inconvenience. Please try back again later.'

Meanwhile, six Lotto players each won $166,667 with Lotto First Division in Saturday night's draw, the spokesperson said.

The winning tickets were sold at the following stores: Northcross Pricecutter & Lotto Auckland, Countdown Three Kings Auckland, Whitcoulls Chartwell Hamilton, Countdown Levin, Warerloo Lotto and Giftshop Lower Hutt and Redcliffs New World Christchurch.

Anyone who bought their ticket from any of the above stores should write their name on the back of the ticket and check it immediately, the spokesperson said.
