First it was a La-Z-Boy, now a mattress has been given the Dunedin Lime scooter treatment.

Adam Peters captured video of two men standing on a plastic covered mattress on two electric scooters on Wednesday night.

The video was shot at a Dunedin car park, near the city's one-way system.

The footage of him riding along the one-way system on Great King St was praised as 'classic Kiwi ingenuity' by commenters on Facebook.

During the e-scooters' launch in Dunedin in early January, Lime spokesman Matt McNeill said he believed the scooters would be popular with students, with thousands due back in the city in February.

University of Otago student Renee Whitehouse was on a Lime scooter that collided with a truck on the one-way system south about two weeks ago.

The 26-year-old remains in Dunedin Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
