A video of the scene shows a New World branded truck stopped at the traffic light controlled intersection.

An e-scooter can be seen nearby with a plastic bag tied to its handlebars, and looks undamaged.

A spokeswoman for the e-scooter company, which launched in Dunedin earlier this month, said their thoughts were with the rider involved in the 'tragic accident' and they wished her a quick recovery.

'We have been in touch with the local authorities and will continue to assist in any way we can,' the spokeswoman said.
