Mitsubishi is cooking up a couple of new concepts for 2022, one of which looks to be a proper Ralliart revival.

I say proper because I mean it’s not restricted to a look pack. This looks to be a real, high-performance vehicle, boasting a large, interestingly styled diffuser with the Ralliart badge on the upper right edge.

Mitsubishi's new Outlander brings some bold new styling cues to Mitsubishi signature look, as well as some advanced new technology.

It’s difficult to say what vehicle the diffuser will adorn, but it doesn’t look much like a ute, so there go any ideas of a Ralliart Triton to fight the Ford Ranger Raptor and Toyota Hilux Mako.

Honestly, there’s a very real chance it will be a hot Outlander or something, but we can absolutely hope for a Lancer revival too.

The release says the concept unites Mitsubishi's engineering skills and its passion for monozukuri (craftsmanship) challenges.

With a premium feel and a strong sense of presence, the styling expresses the company's vision for the new Ralliart.” Sounds good to us.

The second concept is called the Kei EV Concept3, and we know even less about that. The image shows what looks like a small hatchback, with a plug, a badge that says ‘EV’, and the sunrise.

Mitsubishi says it be a “new generation all-electric kei car with Mitsubishi Motors-ness, founded on safety, security and comfort, as well as environmental-friendliness. It will also combine “the easy handling and practical size of a kei car” with the “smooth yet powerful road performance of an EV, while offering advanced driver assistance systems and connectivity.”

So we can look forward to an electric kei car with a bit of poke (up to a maximum of 47kW) and some level of autonomy. It will still be a kei car, which also means it needs to be affordable, so it will be interesting to see how much tech Mitsubishi can cram into the little car while keeping the price reasonable.

While it will be shown as a concept, Mitsubishi has confirmed the Kei EV will be put into production for a sale date in Japan of “early next fiscal year”, which means around April or May 2022.

The two new concepts will be revealed in full on January 14 at the Tokyo Auto Salon.
