Ralliart is back... Sort of.

Mitsubishi has relaunched Ralliart in Thailand, but it might not be entirely what fans want.

Instead of coming out of the blocks with a hot Triton ute to fight the Ranger Raptor and Hilux Mako, the reborn Ralliart brand consists of three cosmetic upgrades for the Pajero Sport and Triton.

Weirdly, the packs are only available on rear-wheel drive versions, rather than the more potent four-wheel drive models.

Styling enhancements include red trim on the bumpers, red mudflaps a small rear spoiler for the Pajero Sport, and a tray liner for the Triton.

There are also Ralliart-specific decals on the rear fenders, along with unique floor mats, wheel arches, grilles, and interior trim.

Unfortunately, there aren’t any performance enhancements to speak of, which does make the Ralliart revival somewhat less impactful, considering the heritage associated with the brand.

It’s that same heritage that caused Mitsubishi Australia’s product strategy boss, Owen Thomson, to say: “We’d love to see Ralliart come back, but if it comes back to Australia we’d want to see it brought back in a proper way.

“There is memory in the market there about what [Ralliart] means.”

Considering these packs are currently Thailand-only, there’s still a chance Mitsubishi will bring Ralliart back with a proper performance model at a later date.

It is also expected the manufacturer will re-enter motorsport with Ralliart, and offer performance parts for other models. This will likely exist separately from the Thai style packs, but is yet to be officially detailed.

Stuff contacted Mitsubishi New Zealand to see if we are in line for the new Ralliart style packs, and was told that Mitsubishi is currently reviewing the project but “doesn’t believe at this point in time that there’s much opportunity for it in New Zealand.”
