Reborn Ralliart to be headlined by performance Triton?
Friday, 14 May 2021
Mitsubishi has confirmed its Ralliart performance sub-brand will be returning, and there’s a good chance it will be headlined by a performance Triton ute.
The announcement came as part of Mitsubishi’s 2020 end of financial year report, accompanied by a render of a Triton with red mudflaps, grille highlights and extra decals.
It’s unclear if it will arrive as part of the current generation or the next-gen model due to debut next year. It has previously been reported that Mitsubishi is taking control of ute development for the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, so a Ralliart Triton serving as a demonstration of what it can really do would make sense.
According to the presentation, the cars will have 'an adventurous spirit … overwhelming driving durability … and increased Mitsubishi Motor-ness.” Whatever that means.

More details are scarce but unconfirmed reports from Japan suggest Mitsubishi will offer Ralliart parts and accessories as well as get back into motorsport.
Hopefully Mitsubishi is also considering bringing back its sportier (and more interesting) models like the Lancer Evolution sedan and Eclipse coupe but, given the fact the Diamond brand has been going rough the past few years financially, don’t count on it.
Stuff reached out to Mitsubishi New Zealand to see if there was any other information but, unfortunately, there isn’t. “Obviously, we’re very excited about the prospect and are working with our head office in Japan to understand timings and roll-out plans.”
