Genesis unveils spectacular X Concept
Friday, 2 April 2021
Genesis has revealed its latest concept car, the all-electric X Concept. It's not the production Essentia we hoped for, but it’s some serious eye candy.
The concept shows off Genesis’ “Two Lines” design language previously seen on the GV80 SUV and G80 four-door fastback. It dots (lines?) the interior and exterior, which is something we’ll see more of on future Genesis EV models.
'The Genesis X Concept can be described as the ultimate vision of Athletic Elegance, the inherent design language of Genesis,' said SangYup Lee, Head of Genesis’ Global Design. 'The signature Two Lines theme and sustainable luxury will be blueprints for the futuristic designs and state-of-the-art technologies that Genesis seeks to adopt in its future models.'
Up front is a huge shield-shaped ‘Crest’ grille, which is sort of unnecessary considering the car is an EV, but is certainly striking to look at. Genesis has given the X a clamshell bonnet that is integrated with the fender, which creates a “clean, sensual, uninterrupted surface”.

The twin LED stripes that form the headlights extend along the sides, a motif mimicked at the rear end and in the rear window. A concave rear end gives the X a unique look from the back, accented by the lack of exhaust pipes and the sloping roofline.
Genesis designers went for a minimal interior look, with contrasting seat colours of brown and green-blue for the driver and passenger. There’s a floating centre console that angles towards the driver along with a ‘Free-Form’ display that controls functions like navigation, infotainment and air-conditioning.
Also mounted in the centre console is the 'Crystal Sphere Electronic Shift Lever' which flips around to reveal a faceted crystal cover when not in use. Looks a bit like an eyeball, doesn’t it?
Genesis isn’t talking about the powertrain, aside from the fact that it’s electric, so there’s nothing to confirm in that department. Given the X is a GT car, we’d expect it to be packing a decent punch.
There’s also no word on production, although this one does seem a bit closer to the green light than the Essentia.
