GMSV confirms Kiwi pricing for right-hand drive Corvette

Tuesday, 30 March 2021

General Motors has revealed the all-new mid-engined Chevrolet Corvette - and it is coming here!

General Motors Specialty Vehicles (GMSV) has just confirmed the pricing for the right-hand drive C8 Corvette, expected to arrive early next year.

The mid-engined Chevy will land here in three specifications; 2LT, 3LT and a special Carbon Edition. Full details are yet to be confirmed but the 2LT base model will come standard with a colour head-up display, 14-speaker Bose audio system, the Z51 performance pack and frontal lift. The 3LT and Carbon Edition build off this.

The Z51 package includes a dual mode exhaust, performance suspension with ‘Magnetic Selective Ride Control’ (magnetic active dampers that react and adjust within milliseconds), larger Brembo brakes, electronic-limited slip differential, a front splitter, rear fascia-mounted spoiler, extra cooling provisions and specific rear axle ratio.

Moving up to the 3LT gets “hand-picked interior trims, premium wheels and a brake caliper package” while the Carbon Edition presumably adds a bunch of extra carbon fibre trim to the Corvette.

Power is sourced from a 6.2-litre V8, which sends 370kW of power and 635Nm of torque through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic. GM reckons it will hit 60mph (96kmh) in 'less than 3 seconds', so around three for the zero to 100kmh sprint then.

As for price, the 2LT Coupe will start at $154,990, while the 3LT will kick off at $169,990. The Carbon Edition is yet to be priced. Convertible versions of each trim will add $15k.

More information is expected in the second quarter of 2021, according to the GM of GMSV New Zealand, Matthew Taylor.

“Corvette is an iconic car and there is a massive groundswell of interest and anticipation building ahead of its local launch,” said Taylor. “We have every expectation it will more than live up to its legendary status.”

As well as the Corvette details, GMSV has priced the new off-road oriented Chevrolet Silverado LT Trail Boss, set to arrive in Q3 2021 for $119,900.

The LT Trail Boss gets a factory-fitted lift-kit, which adds 25mm of ride height to the front and 30mm to the rear. It also has Rancho monotube shocks, a mechanical rear locking differential, 18-inch wheels, hill descent control, a heavy-duty air filter and bash plates.

Inside is a heated steering wheel, heated seats all around and plenty of leather. Wireless phone mirroring for both Apple and Android users is supported. Power is sourced from a 6.2-litre 313kW/624Nm Ecotec V8 coupled with a ten-speed automatic transmission.

Towing is rated at 4.5 tonnes and there’s a standard suite of active driver aides like front and rear park assist, lane change alert and rear cross traffic alert.

“LT Trail Boss is purpose-built, born to perform, offering rugged dependability in off-road settings when exploring on the weekend, but is also at home in urban environments during the week,” said Taylor.

“It will enable big thrills and big adventures - it’s a way to really enjoy and experience the road less travelled.”
