Shelby NZ to start offering hot F-150s

Tuesday, 23 June 2020

Matamata-based Shelby New Zealand has confirmed it will begin selling right-hand drive versions of the Shelby F-150 truck.

Sales manager of the local Shelby arm, Ross Prevette, confirmed that they will be offering the entire line-up of Shelby F-150 trucks, including the supercharged 4x4 Super Snake Sport.

The new Shelby F-150 Super Snake Sport boasts a 575kW 5.0-litre V8 and was built in response to American enthusiasts requesting a scorching fast street truck to replace the legendary SVT Lightning.

The result is a truck that hits 100kmh in just 3.45 seconds and can go on to achieve 0 to 160kph and back to 0 in 8.3 seconds.

In addition to the Super Snake Sport, local buyers will be able to sample the Shelby F-150 4x4 Off Road model, the F-150 Super Snake Street Truck (different to the Super Snake Sport) and the F-150 Raptor, all based on Fords F-150 Supercrew cab configuration which allows room for up to five adults. The Super Snake Sport is a single-cab design.

Shelby NZ didn't say how many of each model it will be offering but considering a limited number of Shelby Mustangs and trucks can be built each year, don't expect a lot. The entire first batch of right-hook F-150s are spoken for but orders are being taken for future builds.

Other Shelby's on offer include the Mustang Shelby GT, Super Snake (in regular and widebody trim) and the Signature Edition.

Also listed on the Shelby NZ website are some heritage models like the 289 and 427 Cobra as well as the Daytona Coupe and GT40. We'd assume these are by special order only, preceded by the exchange of a large sum of money.

Stuff spoke to Previtte who confirmed the first arrivals should be here by around late August. The trucks will be converted to right-hand drive by an external company before Shelby NZ bolts on superchargers and ramps up power. Prices for the F-150 range start at around $220k, which gets you the Super Snake Sport.
