Limited-edition Shelby Mustang bound for NZ

Thursday, 4 June 2020

For more than 50 years, the name Shelby has been synonymous with high-performance Ford Mustangs.

Shelby New Zealand has confirmed it will offer limited numbers of the epic Carroll Shelby Signature Edition Mustang.

The Signature Edition has been widened with high-quality aluminium guards to create a “square” footprint, allowing fatter 20-inch forged monobloc wheels to squeeze under the bodywork. 'Tuned suspension' consists of a special Shelby track handling pack while sticky performance tyres help put the power to the tarmac.

Mention power, the Signature Edition has a 615kW supercharged 5.0-litre V8 under the bonnet, enough to send the muscle car to 100kmh in around 3.6 seconds. A Borla exhaust with custom tips is included to really let that engine sing while Shelby-spec Brembo brakes keep that power in check.

This is the 617kW Carroll Shelby Signature Edition Mustang, and we want one.

Buyers can spec their cars with either the ten-speed automatic gearbox or the six-speed manual, the former getting additional cooling and the latter a short-throw shifter.

The interior has been upgraded with various Shelby bits and pieces like a Shelby gauge pod, unique badging and Shelby floor mats/door sill plates while the exterior looks suitably angry as well.

There's a new front fascia assembly, fresh rocker panels and wings, aluminium front fenders, Shelby striping and badging and tinted windows. The rear end also gets a diffuser, special tail panel and a different spoiler.

Optional extras include more stripes, a custom audio system, a rear seat delete, ceramic paint protection and a wide-body package.

Just 50 will be built worldwide and only three are allocated to New Zealand, with orders for the local editions closing on the 30th of June, so best get in quick if you're interested. Shelby NZ isn't disclosing prices, so we'd expect it to cost a fair bit of coin.

Based in Matamata, Shelby New Zealand is a division of Matamata Panelworks, a custom design and fabrication shop that specialises in full car restoration, custom paint and custom builds and is the official distributor of Shelby Mustangs in New Zealand.
