Fieldays traffic changes to impact SH21 and the Tamahere interchange
Friday, 5 June 2026
With Fieldays set to attract thousands of visitors next week, temporary road closures will be in place.
From Tuesday 9 to Sunday 14, there will be temporary traffic changes around the Mystery Creek area.
The northbound lane on SH21 will be closed between the SH21 Airport Road and Raynes Road intersection from 7am to 10am and 4pm to 6pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The Tamahere interchange will also be closed between 6am and 11am to reduce congestion on SH1 at peak times.
Travellers will need to plan ahead, NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi Waikato journey manager Andrew Brosnan said.
“We want people to get there safely and with as little stress as possible. With more vehicles expected on the roads around Mystery Creek and Tamahere during the event, people are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and consider alternative travel options where possible.
“This year we have also implemented a no right turn restriction from Raynes Road onto SH21 (Airport Road) during the morning peak, with access available only for residents with vehicle passes.
“People travelling through the area but not heading to Fieldays are encouraged to use SH3 and SH1C as alternative routes. Travel to Fieldays from SH1 via SH21 Airport Road will not be affected.”
Brosnan urged people to take advantage of the bus options.
“There are several free services running to and from the event each day. Regional and Hamilton City buses are free to the Hamilton Transport Centre, with connecting buses running to Gate 1 at Fieldays, Mystery Creek, for people with a valid 2026 Fieldays ticket.”
Regional bus services are available from Raglan, Cambridge, Te Awamutu, Paeroa, Te Aroha, Morrinsville, Huntly, Taumarunui, Te Kūiti and Tokoroa.
Buses to Fieldays will depart from the Hamilton Transport Centre approximately every 30 minutes from 7am to 11am, returning from 1pm to 5.30 pm.
