Nicky Davis to run for mayor in Gore
Monday, 7 July 2025
Ben Bell will have some competition for the mayoralty of the Gore District as former councillor Nicky Davis has confirmed she will stand for the position in October’s local body elections.
Davis served as a district-wide councillor from 2016 but did not stand for re-election in 2022.
Davis said she was seeking re-election because of the number of people that had approached her asking her to stand.
Cutting costs would be the focus of her campaign, she said.
“I can’t comment on what costs need cutting right now. I have to get the seat first, but if I do, I’ll be looking at everything and I mean everything,” she said.
“It has to be a focus because that’s what people have asked for, and there are definitely some areas that need to be looked at.”
She would not comment on what those areas were.
She said if people wanted change and wanted to be heard, they should vote for her.
Bell said he welcomed any challenges for the mayoralty.
“That’s what democracy is all about,” he said.
“It gives me a chance to campaign, remind people about what I have achieved and set my mandate for the next three years. Hopefully the people can see what I have done and give me another three years,” he said.
