The last call for sipping candyfloss cocktails overlooking Christchurch is near as the Pink Lady Rooftop bar prepares to close its doors.

The cocktail bar with 360-degree views across the city announced on social media that with “heavy hearts” it was closing at the end of next week, encouraging punters to redeem any vouchers before the closure.

Seven restaurant, also in the building is also shutting for good.

The Pink Lady building on Manchester St was purchased in 2017 by Box 112, which also runs Pink Lady Cocktail Bar and Seven. Box 112 has beautified several buildings throughout Christchurch, including the Public Trust Office and Midland Club on Oxford Tce.

The mid-century building was refurbished by Box 112, a company which has beautified many buildings in the city post-quakes.

Rebecca Rosie, director of Pink Lady and Seven, said: “At this stage we are looking to have our last day of trade on Sunday, May 12.

“Both venues have struggled to get good, consistent weekly trade and with the winter months ahead it is financially prudent of us to call it before we don't have the choice.

“We are making that call early enough so that all of our financial obligations can be met to staff and creditors.”

The Pink Lady came under threat in 2021 following Pink Lady Hospitality being placed into receivership, along with a number of Christchurch hospitality venues owned by five companies including Hospitality Hub, Welder Events, East Block Hospitality Group, Campbellfield & Co.

The only shareholder of Pink Lady at the time, director Tom Newfield, told the liquidator the “fundamental reason” the company had collapsed was “the impact of Covid-19”.

It continued to trade while new owners were sought.
