Firefighters put out a fire in the basement of Wellington
Firefighters put out a fire in the basement of Wellington's Treasury building.

Firefighters have extinguished an electrical fire in the basement of the Treasury Building.

Everyone has been evacuated from the building and there are no injuries, said Fire and Emergency shift manager Carlos Dempsey.

The Terrace is closed between Bowen St and Aurora Terrace.

The fire started at the substation in the basement and had not spread further, Dempsey said. Fire crews had been working to extinguish the fire for half an hour and were first called to the building at 4pm.

The Terrace between Bowen St and Aurora Terrace was closed to traffic. Police said the road reopened at 6.30pm.
