Police release name of man who died in Taupō crash

The pedestrian who died in a Taupō crash in the early hours of Thursday morning was Shane Oakley Thompson.

The police released the name of the 46-year-old Otukou man on Friday and said they are making enquiries in relation to the death on behalf of the coroner.

Emergency services responded to the crash involving a pedestrian and a car on Broadlands Rd in Taupō shortly after 1.15am on Thursday.

“Police extend sympathies to his family,” a statement from the police said.

“The coroner will release their finding in due course.”

The police are appealing for sightings or dashcam footage of a man walking on Broadlands Rd between midnight and 1.30am.
