Rare blood micromoon visible tonight: Show off your photos
Friday, 19 November 2021
ASSIGNMENT: Dogs and wolves will have something extra special to howl at on Friday night.
If you look up at the sky from 8pm, you could see a so-called blood micromoon, a rare lunar event that last occurred over Aotearoa nearly 800 years ago, according to Stardome astronomer Rob Davison.
The Moon's face will be 97 per cent covered by the Earth's shadow (rather than fully covered like a total eclipse), and the lunar surface will turn red.
If you're planning to have a go at astronomy photography, we've love to see your photos of this spectacular moon.
