Three people injured in crash near rural Otago town Kingston

Three people have been injured in a serious two car crash near the small Otago town of Kingston.

The crash happened on Kingston Rd on State Highway 6 near an area called the Devils Staircase just after 1.40pm on Friday.

Fire and Emergency NZ spokesman Rewai Grace said fire crews from Queenstown, Frankton and Kingstown were sent to rescue a trapped person from a car.

St John spokeswoman Ngaire Jones said a man with serious injuries had been flown to Dunedin Hospital and two people with minor injuries had been taken to Lakes District Hospital in Queenstown.

A police spokeswoman said the road was closed and the serious crash unit were on scene to carry out an investigation.

An NZTA spokesman said motorists should expect delays travelling in both directions along SH6.
