Live: Heavy rain and ‘squally thunderstorms’ possible across North Island overnight

A complex weather system is bringing periods of heavy rain to parts of the North Island.
Severe thunderstorm watches for Northland, Auckland, Great Barrier Island, Waikato and the Coromandel Peninsula have lifted, however “squally thunderstorms” were possible on Friday night and early Saturday.
Orange heavy rain warnings are in place for the Tararua Range, Taranaki north of Eltham and Bay of Plenty east of Whakatāne.
Horowhenua, Kāpiti Coast and Wellington are under a heavy rain watch.
