Man wanted in relation to Ponsonby Rd shooting named

On Sunday night, a man was fatally shot on Ponsonby Rd in central Auckland.
Police released two images of a man they are looking for in relation to the incident, and have appealed to the public for their help in finding out who he is.

On Sunday night, a homicide investigation was launched after a man was shot dead on the central Auckland street.
More than 36 hours later, no arrests have been made and police continue to appeal for information about 31-year-old Selwyn.
The man has previously appeared in court on two charges - one of assault and one of breaching bail.
He appeared in the Waitākere DC in May 2020 on a charge of assault with intent to injure. The following month, he was charged with breaching his bail.
In December 2020, he was charged with breaching his community detention conditions.
A now deleted social media message posted by Selwyn’s partner late on Monday said that she had been inundated by messages “concerning Hone’s actions last night in Ponsonby”.
She asked for space to process the “tragedy”. She said she was “deeply sorry” and felt a “great sense of shame about the situation”.

She passed on her “sincerest condolences to the family and loves ones of the victim”.
On Monday afternoon, Detective Inspector Chris Barry said “police are working tirelessly to give the victim’s family answers and to put [Selwyn] before the Court”.
“We are reiterating that Kay-Selwyn is considered dangerous and should not be approached,” Barry said.
“Anyone who sights him should contact police immediately on 111.”
An arrest warrant has been issued for Selwyn in relation to the unlawful possession of a firearm.
“We are reminding any associates of this man that anyone found to be aiding or assisting him to evade police in any way, may be liable to prosecution for being an accessory after the fact.”
On Sunday, a man tried to enter a bar on Ponsonby Rd, but was denied entry because it was closing, Barry said.
The man was then seen “lingering” on Ponsonby Rd, towards the Richmond Rd end.
At around 10.15pm, a group of four people - including the victim - got out of a parked car and walked in the man’s direction.
“Enquiries so far indicate multiple shots were discharged,” Barry said.
Police allege the man who was earlier denied entry to the local bar was the man who fired the shots.

Police are continuing to appeal for anyone with any information to come forward either by calling their 105 phone service, referencing file number 240506/9353, or anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
