Watch: Alleged thieves run through mall after jewellery smash-and-grab

• Footage shows a group of people making a dash for it after allegedly robbing a jewellery store in Onehunga.

• Police are at the scene investigating.

A group of alleged thieves have dashed through a mall carrying bags of jewellery on Thursday afternoon.

Footage shows onlookers at Dress Smart Onehunga moving for cover as a group of weapon-wielding people in black outfits run from the store - which is believed to be Michael Hill Jewellery.

The sound of glass smashing can be heard before the group make a break for it.

Police said they’re investigating reports of a robbery at a commercial premises.

Police said they understood a group of people entered the store with weapons, that weren’t guns, and broke several cabinets.

One man appears to be wielding a machete in footage given to Stuff.

The group left the area in a vehicle, which was waiting outside the shopping mall, police said.

“A number of Police are in the area while enquiries are ongoing to locate those involved, as well as to establish the full circumstances, including determining what was taken.”

No injuries had been reported, they said.

Shops could be seen closing their security doors as the group ran past on the way out.
