Man killed in bus-on-van crash on Auckland's North Shore

A man has died in a crash involving a bus and a van in Birkenhead on Auckland's North Shore on Friday morning.
The two vehicles collided on Waipa St about 11:55am.
The driver of the van died at the scene, while the bus driver was receiving medical treatment at North Shore Hospital for minor injuries, police said.
Acting road policing manager Senior Sergeant John Bleackley said there were no passengers on the bus at the time of the crash.
Police were interviewing witnesses to try and piece together what had happened.
Birkenhead Transport managing director Robert Inwards confirmed the bus was not in service at the time.
The driver was on the way to start their run, Inwards said.
Birkenhead Transport did not wish to identify the driver.

Waipa St was closed and diversions were in place.
Police were asking motorists to avoid the area.
