New Zealand is in line for another royal visit: Charles and Camilla will visit in November.

Prime Minister John Key announced the visit on Friday, the second for the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall.

The couple last visited in November 2012 to mark Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee.

Key said it was agreed then that future visits should occur more regularly than they had in the past, to build on the 'close and special links' between New Zealand and the royal family.

'I am delighted to welcome them both back to New Zealand,' Key said.

'I'm sure New Zealanders will be excited to hear that Their Royal Highnesses are returning, providing another opportunity to meet members of the royal family here in New Zealand.'

It will be New Zealand's second visit from the royals this year, after Prince Charles' son Prince Harry visited in May.

The visits follow a royal tour of New Zealand and Australia by Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, with baby Prince George.

The young couple have since welcomed Princess Charlotte, born in May.
