One dead after car and truck collide on Kaimai Range

One person has died after a truck and car collided in the Kaimai Range in the Bay of Plenty.

The crash happened on State Highway 29 in the Lower Kaimai area around 5.20am on Monday, police said.

The road was closed in both directions between Tauranga and Te Poi while the Serious Crash Unit examined the scene.

It reopened before 10am.

The truck driver was uninjured, and the person who died was the only person in the car, a police spokeswoman said.
