One dead, another injured, in crash in Tokomaru, Horowhenua

One person has died in a car crash in Tokomaru, Horowhenua.
The crash on Sunday night around 11.30pm involved two vehicles, police said.
It occurred at the intersection of Makerua and Williams roads.
The driver and sole occupant of one of the vehicles died at the scene.
A passenger in the other vehicle received moderate injuries.
Police said an investigation into the cause of the crash was under way.
The weekend’s toll
The first person to die on New Zealand’s roads over the Labour long weekend was a motorcyclist on State Highway 2 in Timberlea, Upper Hutt.
A second person died in a crash on Whatatutu Rd, Te Karaka, near Gisborne, in the early hours of Saturday morning.
A third death occurred after a two-car crash on State Highway 8 near Tekapo on Saturday morning. Three other people were injured in the crash.
A pedestrian died in a crash on State Highway 3, in Westmere, Whanganui, on Saturday afternoon.
And a fifth person died when a car rolled in Tikitiki, north of Gisborne.
A motorcyclist is in a critical condition in Waikato Hospital, following a crash in Putorino, north of Napier.
