A woman taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a reported shooting in Wellington has been stabilised, and is now in a “serious” condition.
Armed police swarmed a residential Wellington street after the woman was found critically injured at the property on Sunday afternoon.
Police were responding to reports of a shooting in Travers St, Vogeltown.
The condition of the victim was changed to “serious” later Sunday, a spokeswoman for the Capital & Coast District Health Board said.

A local resident said while the area could be busy because a lot of people used it to access MacAlister Park, it was usually quiet on a Sunday afternoon.
“At this time in the day it was pretty quiet, so it was alarming to suddenly see something like a dozen police vehicles up and down the road and armed cops striding up and down the street.
“It's not a crime hotspot so seeing any police here, let alone that many, is out of the ordinary.”
Police could be seen talking to residents on Travers St, which remained closed for much of the afternoon.
“There are a couple of police cars in a V shape blocking off the road,” the resident said.
A Wellington Free Ambulance spokeswoman said one patient was taken to Wellington Regional Hospital about 3 o’clock.
