In pictures: Land turned into lakes as torrential rain wreaks havoc in the South Island

The extent of the flooding in Wesport on the West Coast in July 2021 is revealed in this aerial video.

Marlborough and the West Coast were hit hard with extensive flooding during the weekend’s deluge that wreaked havoc on homes and farmland.

The stormy weather caused rivers to rise and breach their banks. Floodwaters damaged homes, roads and farmland and number of people were forced to evacuate their homes.

Aerial photos show lakes of water across farmland, and rivers flowing through town streets.
