Fisherman missing off Auckland's west coast, search underway

A search is underway for a fisherman missing off Auckland’s west coast.

It is understood the fisherman fell into the water off Kauwahaia Island on Monday afternoon.

Police were alerted after 1pm. A spokesman said it was established one person out of a group of fisherman was missing.

The police Eagle helicopter conducted an aerial search on Monday afternoon, but the man couldn’t be located.

Land- and water-based searches will continue near the island.
