A man in his 20s has been critically injured after a crash between a car and a motorbike in central Auckland.
At least nine police cars could be seen at the scene of the crash, which happened shortly before midday on Sunday, at the intersection of Mt Albert and Dominion Roads in central Auckland.
Motorways police Sergeant Andrew Meale told Stuff at the scene that the motorcyclist had been going down the South-Western Motorway at 'high speed', before exiting at Dominion Road.
Police had seen the motorcyclist, but weren't close enough to catch him, Meale said.
Before they could get close, the motorcyclist collided with a car carrying three people.
The man was taken to hospital in a critical condition. The three people in the other vehicle were not injured, Meale told Stuff.
A section of Mt Albert Road was closed as a result of the crash, and the Serious Crash Unit was investigating.
