Body swept 28km up coast confirmed as Jaden Chhayrann

A body found by Whiritoa Beach has been confirmed as the missing teenager who was swept out to sea while on a school trip. 

Police confirmed on Thursday the body found on March 1 was Jaden Chhayrann, 17, who was on a school trip to Waihī Beach on February 21 when he and another person got into trouble in the water.

Only one of them made it back to dry land. 

The Melville High School student's body was found by Whiritoa Beach, which is about 28 kilometres north of Waihī Beach.

School considers review after student goes missing at Waihī Beach**

Police and the Waihī Beach Surf Lifesaving Club scoured the shoreline and coastline after Jaden's disappearance.

Jaden's presumed drowning has been referred to the Coroner.
