Auckland SkyCity Convention Centre fire: All the best photos from day two

The flames raging at Auckland's SkyCity Convention Centre construction site will burn through the night and into Thursday, firefighters say.

The blaze started about 1.10pm Tuesday, sending clouds of black smoke billowing across the CBD.

Auckland Regional Public Health Service advised people to stay out of the city if they could, close the windows and turn off external ventilation to their homes.

Fire and Emergency said on Wednesday it expected to be on site for about 24 hours more.

Once the roof had burnt through, firefighters would launch an 'offensive' attack on the flames, area commander Ron Devlin said.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern visited the site on Wednesday afternoon, where she praised the firefighters as 'incredibly professional'.

Auckland Mayor Phil Goff also paid tribute to the people fighting the blaze, saying they showed 'amazing resilience and dedication'.

'They're doing us proud,' he added.
