A Royal New Zealand Navy sailor is in a critical condition following a water incident at the Devonport Naval Base.
A Defence Force spokesperson said the sailor was admitted to Auckland's North Shore Hospital after an advanced diver training session went wrong about 10pm on Monday.
The incident occurred in about six to eight metres of water.
'Immediate first aid was given at the scene by his colleagues and emergency services were called.'
The man's friends and family were being supported by the Navy, the spokesperson said.
An investigation into the incident was ongoing and no further details were available.
