Pedestrian killed after being hit by car in Māngere, south Auckland

A pedestrian has died after they were hit by a car in Robertson Rd in the south Auckland suburb of Māngere on Friday.
Police said the pedestrian was hit about 1.45pm and died at the scene.
Robertson Rd was partially blocked with diversions in place on the road at McKinstry Ave and Kivell Close.
The serious crash unit was investigating.
Local Imtiaz Aziz said he missed the incident by minutes.
Aziz and his dad were passing Māngere Centre Park from the town centre when they saw a person lying on the road with a lot of people around, stopping traffic.
'It looked like a maroon-coloured Toyota Estima that hit the person,' he said.
Aziz said he was in a wheelchair and felt it was unsafe to cross the road where the park was located.
'That area is really busy and there is no pedestrian crossing,' he said.
'I hope they do something about a pedestrian crossing there as it is a very busy road and it could avoid situations like this to happen in the future.'
A Robertson Rd resident said he could see at least four police cars and plenty of police on the street.
Cars were being diverted away from the scene, he said.
The cordons were lifted by 4pm and traffic was flowing normally.
