Person dead, road closed after serious east Auckland crash

Whitford Rd in the east Auckland suburb of Shamrock Park has been closed following a two-car collision.

One person has died and multiple people have been injured in a serious crash in east Auckland.

Police were called to Whitford Rd in Shamrock Park at 5.40pm following the two-car crash.

A statement from police said in addition to the deceased person, one person received critical injuries and one had serious injuries.

Whitford Rd had been closed between Point View Drive and Whitford Park Rd 'until further notice', the statement said.

Diversions were in place at the Whitford Rd/Somerville Rd roundabout and at the intersection of Whitford Rd and Broomfields Rd.

'Motorists looking to travel between Howick and Whitford are advised to take an alternate route via Chapel Road, Ormiston Road and Whitford Park Road,' police said.

'Anyone travelling in the area should expect delays and are asked to be patient.'
