Lamborghini boosts the Urus with new Performante model

Monday, 22 August 2022

The Lamborghini Urus Performante has been revealed as the fastest Lamborghini SUV yet.

Lamborghini has injected a few extra herbs and spices into the Urus with the new Performante edition, revealed over the weekend at Pebble Beach.

Power from 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 has been boosted to a healthy 490KW/850Nm which, paired with a 47kg weight loss, means the 0-100kph sprint is done and dusted in a mere 3.3 seconds. That’s pretty remarkable for an SUV that still weighs around 2150kg, doubled by the fact the braking distance from 100kph to zero is just 33 metres.

To drop those kilos, Lamborghini has added a new carbon fibre bonnet (available in either body colour or partially visible CF), an optional carbon roof, lighter 22-inch wheels and a standard fit titanium Akrapovic exhaust system.

This beast is the Urus Performante, which isn’t quite as powerful as the Aston Martin DBX707 but still mightily fast.

The Performante also features a 20mm lower ride height, and a 16mm wider track with wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R rubber.

Lamborghini says the tyres were developed alongside Pirelli and is the first time the Trofeo R has been built for the characteristics of an SUV.

There’s a recalibrated steering system, offering “enhanced agility, feedback and sports orientation”, while the rear-wheel steering now reacts faster to improve turn-in.

Factor in better aerodynamics and the Performante is a serious option for those wanting an incredibly fast family SUV.

Like the standard Urus, a handful of drive modes are on offer. Strada allows a comfortable ride while Sport bumps the throttle response and ramps up the rear-wheel steering.

Those comfortable pushing a 2.1-tonne SUV around corners will encounter oversteer first, Lamborghini says. Finally, Corsa goes full race mode with everything from the damping to the exhaust set to maximum.

There is a new addition to the drive mode selection – Rally, which adjusts the anti-roll and damping systems for rough and more extreme surfaces.

Lamborghini promises deliveries will start before the end of 2022. Local pricing isn’t confirmed yet, but expect it to carry a healthy premium over the standard Urus’ $369,000 sticker.
