Six initial dealers for cheap new EV
Wednesday, 22 June 2022
BYD has confirmed its initial Kiwi dealership network, including locations in both the North and South islands.
Six dealerships will offer the mid-sized electric Atto 3 SUV at first, covering five main cities.
Auckland will be taken care of by Andrew Simms in a standalone showroom in Newmarket, as well as a second location in Botany.
Hamilton buyers will be heading to a brand new Ebbett showroom at Te Rapa, while BYD Tauranga will represent the brand in the Bay of Plenty region with a stand-alone dealership currently under construction on 3rd Ave.

Johnston Ebbett will offer BYD in Wellington City in a showroom on Taranaki Stree, and Euromarque BYD will take care of Christchurch. Another dealership in Dunedin is planned for later in 2022.
Following BYD’s launch, set for the third quarter of 2022, more dealers will open in Invercargill, Central Otago and Nelson in the South Island, along with Palmerston North, Hawkes Bay, Whangarei and a third dealership in Auckland for the North.
BYD NZ Manager, Warren Willmot, said: “BYD’s arrival in New Zealand is monumental. These are extraordinary vehicles and deserve an excellent dealer network to sell to and to service BYD customers.
“We have partnered with carefully selected dealers who set a high standard of customer service so that BYD customers can be assured of the most professional service, warranty and finance support delivering an all-round superior purchasing and ownership experience.”
We’re still waiting on concrete pricing for the Atto 3, but it currently retails in Australia for AU$44,990 (NZ$50,125) drive away, which could potentially see it dethroning the MG ZS EV as New Zealand’s cheapest EV if local distributor Ateco can achieve similar pricing here.
