MG NZ announces pricing for new ZS EV

Monday, 7 March 2022

MG Motor New Zealand has revealed the pricing and model line up for the refreshed ZS EV that will go on sale here later this year.

The ZS EV is one of the most popular new EVs in New Zealand (and one of our personal favourites), as well as being the cheapest, so MG would no doubt be keen to keep both titles – something it has managed to do in regard to pricing.

While the previous ZS EV was only available as a single model that retailed for $48,990, the new version will be available in two levels, with the entry level model – the Excite – landing at $49,990, packing slightly different standard kit that the previous ZS EV (it drops a few things and adds a few), but gaining a bigger battery.

Both model’s of ZS EV get a new 51kWh battery (up on the 44.1kWh battery of the last one) with a WLTP range of 320km, as well as an updated electric motor and enhanced battery management electronics.

MG New Zealand says the MG ZS EV will get to New Zealand in July this year.

The Excite features standard equipment like 17-inch alloy wheels, 21-module LED auto-dimming headlights and nine-module LED tail lights, a reversing camera and a 360-degree camera, a 10.1-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and satellite navigation.

The Excite will also come standard with MG Pilot, a suite of driver assists and safety systems such as Intelligent High Beam Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Emergency Lane Keeping and MG’s Speed Assistance System.

But MG has also added a higher-spec model into the mix that exceeds the standard equipment on the old model.

The Essence retails for $52,990 and gets the same 51kWh battery, updated motor and management electronics as the Excite, but gains a panoramic sunroof, power folding side mirrors, a wireless phone charger, synthetic leather seats (heated in the front and six-way electrically adjustable for the driver), as well as adding blind spot monitoring and rear traffic alert into the safety package.

Both versions of the ZS EV will also come standard with MG’s seven-year/unlimited kilometre warranty that incudes both the car and the battery.

“New Zealand customers appreciate that the MG ZS EV is leading the way in affordable EV motoring,” said MG Motor Australia and New Zealand CEO Peter Ciao.

“We trust that our new ZS EV will grow that legacy. It offers more technology at a price that will allow everyday Kiwis to switch to electric motoring without compromise.”

The first 500 customers to reserve a new ZS EV will also receive a $500 credit towards MG’s ChargeHub wallbox, that the company says enables faster charging times for all EVs regardless of brand.
