Mitsubishi reveals Outlander PHEV local pricing
Thursday, 18 November 2021
Mitsubishi Motors New Zealand has revealed local pricing for the plug-in hybrid version of the new Outlander SUV following its global launch last month. The company says the new Outlander PHEV will arrive in New Zealand early next year and will bring “significant improvements to build on its class-leading status”, including 52 per cent extended electric range thanks to a 45 per cent greater battery capacity.
With an extended electric range over the old model - from 55km to 84km - Mitsubishi says the new Outlander PHEV will “expand the horizons of adventure-loving families who want to go further without fuel”, but just in case you do need to use fuel, the tank is 24 per cent larger as well, meaning that the PHEV has a 50 per cent larger total driving range than the old car as well.
Upgrades to the front and rear motors have resulted in more power as well, with a maximum power output of 185kW being a significant bump up from the previous model’s 130kW, while torque is also up to a healthy 450Nm (up from 332Nm). However, the standard Outlander is around 80 to100kg or so heftier than the last model (depending on variant), so we wouldn’t expect massive performance gains.
There will be three PHEV models available in New Zealand, starting with the five-seater LS that comes standard with dual zone climate control, a reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors and a 9-inch smartphone-link infotainment screen, while the XLS offers seven seats, black synthetic leather upholstery, wireless phone charging and three zone automatic climate control.

Topping the range is the premium VRX that adds memory leather seats, a Bose audio system with nine speakers, 1500w AC power outlets, Multi-Around View Mirror, a handsfree powered tailgate and a 10.8-inch head-up dash display.
The LS will initially be available for a special launch price of $59,990 ($54,240 once the Clean Car Discount is applied), but will go up to $69,990 after the launch period.
The XLS costs $75,990, while the VRZ will land at $79,990. All models come with an 8-year/160,000km battery warranty.
“The PHEV concept remains one of the most viable options available for environmentally conscious motorists, especially in tandem with the Clean Car Discount,” said Reece Congdon, Mitsubishi Motors New Zealand’s head of marketing and corporate affairs.
“We firmly believe the Next Generation Outlander PHEV will prove an even bigger hit, and we are encouraged by the response to our online pre-order platform, launched in October, through which we have already sold more than 100 units before the vehicle's arrival next year.”
