Kia confirms new Sportage pricing

Tuesday, 2 November 2021

The all-new Kia Sportage has been revealed.

Kia has confirmed pricing for the new Sportage line-up, due to launch early in 2022.

The next-generation Sportage will start with an introductory offer of $34,990 for the LX Urban, a 2.0-litre front-wheel drive base model. From there, the range expands into LX+, Deluxe and X-Line models.

Urban versions use the 2.0-litre petrol engine driving the front wheels, while those wanting more power can look for the 1.6T models. Finally, diesel power will be available once again.

The new Kia Sportage will arrive in New Zealand in nine different trim/engine combinations.

Deluxe and X-Line models using the 1.6-litre turbo engine come in all-wheel drive, as do all the diesel options.

Kia hasn’t detailed the engines just yet but, assuming they are carry-overs from previous models, expect the 2.0 to make around 114kW of power and 192Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic. Fuel economy should slot in below 8L/100km.

The 1.6-litre turbo should be making around134kW/265Nm paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic while the 2.0-litre diesel will likely sit at 139kW/417Nm with an eight-speed torque-converter automatic.

The FWD 2.0-litre petrol models start with the $34,990 LX Urban and the $39,990 LX+ Urban before topping out with the $42,990 Deluxe Urban, while the AWD 1.6-litre turbo petrol range starts with the $46,990 Deluxe and tops out with the $54,990 X-Line.

The AWD 2.0-litre diesel range is surprisingly expansive, and comprises the $43,990 LX, $46,990 LX+, and $49,990 Deluxe, before finishing with the $59,990 X-Line that tops the Sportage range.

The outgoing Sportage LX sold 417 units for the year to September, while the up-specced LX+ version shifted a further 364 units.

Kia has confirmed it has received more than 500 per-launch orders for the new model, although it didn’t say if these were for the new LX (which was priced in September) or for other versions as well.

“We are looking forward to welcoming the all-new model to New Zealand and have high expectations it will continue to maintain its position as the most popular vehicle in our line-up,” said Managing Director of Kia New Zealand, Todd McDonald.

The next-gen Sportage rides on the new N3 architecture, and packs a new Terrain Mode, which “automatically adjusts the Sportage’s settings so that the vehicle realises an optimal drive dynamic for any given road condition and environment, including snow, mud and sand.” Other modes include Comfort, Eco, Sport or Smart, like current Kia models.

The Sportage also gets Kia’s E-Handling system that improves agility and stability, working alongside a new Electric Control Suspension system.

Final specifications and other key details will be confirmed later this quarter.
