MG ZS EV facelift incoming, could be here next year

MG is working on a facelift for the popular ZS EV SUV, which may include a new plug-in hybrid version.
Patents have been discovered showing the new design, which looks to move the electric SUV away from the current Mazda-ish styling to the newer Mercedes-inspired look, shared with the ZST.
Naturally, details are scarce but it looks like new headlights are coming, probably LED to replace the current halogen units, the chrome grille surround has been ditched, and there are new LED taillight signatures with a refreshed rear bumper.
Inside, we’d expect the 10.1-inch touchscreen from the ZST, along with a digital instrument cluster and improved cabin materials.

It’s difficult to tell, but it seems like the charging port has moved to beside the MG logo, rather than behind it as the current model has.
This could be a simple design change, but the patent image showing the right rear-quarter angle of the car also reveals a fuel filler cap. That means we could be looking at a plug-in hybrid version of the ZST.
Meanwhile, the badging on the tailgate of the renders seems to read ‘ZS EV’, so take from that what you will.
The current ZS EV has been in New Zealand for a little over a year now and has sold around 136 units for the year to July. It’s the cheapest fully electric vehicle in the country, asking a hair over $40k when factoring in the Clean Car Discount rebate.
