Hennessey reveals very supercharged, very powerful Mammoth

Tuesday, 29 June 2021

Hennessey has done the utterly expected and built an ultra-powerful truck based around the Ram 1500 TRX.

It’s not like the standard TRX is slow, given it uses Dodge’s Hellcat V8, generating an excess of 520kW. However, those familiar with Hennessey’s work know that horsepower figures beneath 1000 aren’t worth chasing.

As such, the Mammoth has been tuned to produce no less than 1012 horsepower, or 754kW in new money. Torque has also been increased to 1313Nm.

Unnecessary? Absolutely. But the upcoming wave of electric trucks will offer similar power figures, so don’t be too critical of that. Unsurprisingly, Hennessey doesn’t talk about fuel consumption or CO2 emissions.

Modifications to the 6.2-litre V8 include a high-flow 2.65L supercharger, fuel injectors and high-flow induction system alongside “performance-boosting calibrations” and other engine upgrades. Hennessey says the truck will clip the quarter-mile in 11.4 seconds at nearly 200kmh.

John Hennessey, company founder and CEO, said: “The new Mammoth 1000 TRX is the most powerful pickup truck that Hennessey Performance has ever offered. The Ram TRX already boasts the highest horsepower of any vehicle manufacturer’s pickup, so our performance, styling and off-road enhancements make this the most formidable new truck you can buy.

“We’ve already sold more than 100 trucks, with each answering one big question – why have a 1,000-horsepower pickup truck? Because we can!”

Other specs of the truck include measurements of 5.81 metres long, 2.09 metres wide and 1.97 metres tall. It can carry six adults along with a payload “exceeding 1043kg” and towing capabilities of “more than 3492kg”.

Including buying the stock TRX, owners opting for the Mammoth 1000 will typically pay in the region of US$150,000 (NZ$ 213k) for their build. Hennessey says the majority of owners will take a highly-specified stock model, and add the Mammoth 1000 package and the Stage 2 off-road enhancements.

That Stage 2 package adds custom bumpers, LED lights, a front levelling kit, 37-inch off-road tyres and upgraded electronic fold-out steps.

Otherwise, a Stage 1 kit also adds custom bumpers and LED lights but reduces the tyre size to 35 inches and ditches the fold-out steps.

The Mammoth 1000 TRX complete turnkey package also comes with a 2 year/24,000 mile (38,642km) warranty.
