BMW confirms local pricing for the M3 and M4

BMW has confirmed the local price and specifications for the new M3 and M4, arriving here exclusively in Competition guise.

The M3 Competition Sedan will start at $168,900 and the M4 Competition Coupe will kick off at $172,900.

They develop 375kW of power and 650Nm of torque from a 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight-six engine, paired with an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission.

Both cars will initially come as rear-drive models before the xDrive all-wheel drive models arrive next year. That doesn’t make them slow, however, with 0-100kmh times of 3.9 seconds apiece, along with a 0-200kmh time of 12.5 seconds.

Both cars also come standard with a sports exhaust system with electronically-controlled flaps, adding more aggression to the car’s power package at the touch of a button.

Handling should be nicely improved over the last generation, with a redeveloped chassis boasting higher torsional rigidity, M Adaptive suspension with electronically controlled shocks and M-tuned steering.

There is also a highly-sensitive DSC (dynamic stability control) system hooked up to an Active M differential further create “predictable and precise handling on the edge.”

BMW also offers an “M Drift Analyser” which sounds like it’s encouraging loony behaviour. Only on closed circuits, of course.

Both the M3 and M4 get the 4 Series’ new large grille, for better or worse, as well as chunky wheel arches, larger side sills and a carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) roof to keep weight down.

Further standard equipment includes BMW Laserlight headlights, a Harman Kardon surround sound system, carbon fibre interior trim, ‘Parking Assistant Plus’ and BMW’s Live Cockpit Profressional.

Options include M Sport brakes with painted calipers, an M Carbon package which adds carbon seats and carbon exterior trim, remote engine start, BMW Drive Recorder and staggered 19-inch/20-inch M forged wheels with track tyres.

Further down the line, the M3 will be joined by a Touring variant while the M4 will get a Convertible.
