Hyundai confirms Palisade large SUV for New Zealand

The Hyundai Palisade is the Korean manufacturer's largest SUV and one that is absolutely packed full of features.

Hyundai New Zealand has announced that it will be introducing the large three-row Palisade SUV into New Zealand before the end of the year.

The Palisade is a large SUV designed for the US market and has been available there since late 2018, but the New Zealand launch was largely expected after the Australian distributor let slip last year that it had persuaded the Korean manufacturer to build the Palisade in RHD for sale there.

The Palisade sits on an all-new platform it shares with the Kia Telluride and is the largest vehicle Hyundai has produced. In the US it is powered by a choice of either a 204kW/335Nm 3.5-litre petrol V6, a 217kW/355Nm 3.8-litre petrol V6 or a 147kW/441Nm 2.2-litre diesel four-cylinder engine, all of which drive either the front or all four wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The Palisade was designed for the American market and shares its platform with the equally large Kia Telluride.

Hyundai New Zealand says the Palisade has been 'designed with adventurous families in mind: and offers a host of technology features including a 10-inch navigation display, wireless charging, seven USB outlets, second-row ventilated seats, shift-by-wire, roof-based diffuser vents and the latest safety systems.

Being designed originally for the American market it also has a massive cup-holder count - 16 to be precise.

Hyundai New Zealand General Manager, Andy Sinclair says “We’re excited to be able to offer Kiwis the all-new Palisade just in time for summer. It is the ultimate family vehicle for practical, comfortable daily use and venturing further afield for a family roadie.

“Palisade complements our existing SUV model range, it will sit above the Santa Fe in the line-up, providing Kiwis more choice when it comes to buying a vehicle to meet their lifestyle needs.”

Hyundai New Zealand says that pricing, powertrain and exact specifications will be made available closer to the local launch of the Palisade.
