Honda has announced it has temporarily suspended production at some of its manufacturing facilities over a suspected cyberattack.

The attack reportedly affected Honda plants all over the globe on Monday but some were completely shut down over fears the quality control systems were compromised.

Honda said the attack consisted of a targeted ransomware virus that was uploaded to the carmakers internal servers.

The virus was largely taken care of by Tuesday, with 31 plants back up and running but Honda's main US plant in Ohio and those in Turkey, India and Brazil remain shut down.

Thankfully for the manufacturer, it appears no data has been breached and Honda told the BBC 'at this point, we see minimal business impact.'

Honda is the world's largest producer of two-wheeled vehicles, reaching a production volume of 400 million units by the end of 2019. As for cars, Honda moved about 4.8 million automobiles globally in its 2020 fiscal year, which is about 533,000 below the previous year.
