Nissan confirms Navara N-Trek Warrior price

Wednesday, 13 May 2020

Nissan's Ford Ranger Raptor challenger is confirmed for New Zealand and ready to head off road.

Nissan NZ has confirmed the price of the Navara N-Trek Warrior.

The Ford Ranger Raptor competitor is touching down here now for $74,990, before on-roads are factored in.

That's around $10k less than the Ranger Raptor, although the N-Trek doesn't quite have the oomph of the Ford, making do with the standard 140kW/450Nm 2.3-litre twin-turbo diesel engine.

The N-Trek Warrior is coming here soon at a rather competitive price.

Ford's range-topping ute, meanwhile, uses a smaller 2.0-litre biturbo diesel engine that pushes 157kW/500Nm to all four wheels.

Don't mind losing out on a bit of power on your off-road performance ute if you save $10k? The N-Trek Warrior is for you.

* The all-Aussie Navara to take on the Ranger Raptor

* Utes are still beaut with the Kiwi psyche – just ask Fieldays

The Warrior should still perform well enough, even with the power deficit to the Raptor.

Nissan's offering does get quite a few changes elsewhere though, with significant suspension upgrades, including beefed-up 'off-road capable' springs and dampers, resulting in a 15mm lift to the vehicle. Adding 32.2-inch Cooper All-Terrain tyres increases ride height by a further 25mm – for a total 40mm lift.

The Warrior gets a softer primary spring for ride comfort and off-road articulation, with a higher but more progressive secondary rate to maintain composure and performance both in cornering, heavy-duty off-roading, when laden and when towing.

To maintain the Navara's warranty Nissan says that the suspension changes were 'designed, implemented and tested to ensure that no excessive additional loads were passed into the vehicle's chassis, and all ball joint, tie rod and driveshaft angles did not exceed the design limits.'

Additionally, in a none-too-subtle dig at the Ranger Raptor's lower towing capacity, Nissan quietly adds that 'the Warrior maintains Navara's 3.5 tonne towing capacity.'

Premcar, the tuner behind the N-Trek Warrior, also sourced a range of parts from top tier OEM level suppliers, including the hoopless body colour steel bullbar with integrated 470mm LED light bar, stainless steel front underbody protection, unique 17-inch black alloy wheels and a unique towbar cross member. The towbar has been re-engineered to fit the full size spare wheel and accommodate increased ride height.

The Warrior also includes everything from the recently announced Navara series four updates, including the new 8-inch infotainment system featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Stuff has been told most Nissan dealers will have demonstrator units by now.

It could well be the last hurrah for the current Navara though, with a new ute due in the next few years. It will be developed alongside Mitsubishi's next Triton, as both companies are now part of the alliance with Renault.
