The Porsche Traykan is all the ute you need

Friday, 27 March 2020

The Porsche Taycan is already set to spawn a high-performance off-road-oriented wagon variant in the form of the Cross Turismo but what about a ute?

That's what design group Adel Bouras has imagined and it looks pretty cool. The Traykan is a two-door ute that, presumably, uses the same powertrain as in the range-topping Taycan Turbo S. That would be a 94kWh battery sending energy to two electric motors for a combined 560kW and 1050Nm.

Given the top Taycan takes just 2.8 seconds to hit 100kmh, the Traykan would be right at the point end of performance utes, along with the Cybertruck and Rivian R1T.

This is the Traykan, a what-if scenario regarding a potential Taycan-based ute. Like it?

The front end features an interested lower fascia, with a wiggly design extending beneath the grille. Two round fog lights sit just below a full-width LED DRL, which links into Porsche's traditional headlight design. The wiggly chin line extends to the door sills and around to the back.

Meanwhile, the roof and windshield are constructed from a single piece of glass, which is covered at the back by a unique blade-like style element.

All in, the Traykan looks great. The black-and-yellow scheme would be our pick over the silver.

It looks like the group also rendered a combustion-powered variant, evidenced by the twin exhaust outlets on that rear-end shot, possibly based on the Cayenne? Let's pretend it uses the Turbo S E-Hybrid's mechanicals, which would mean a twin-turbocharged V8 paired with an electric motor for 500kW/900Nm of system output.

So what would be your pick for EV ute out of this, the Cybertruck or the Rivian R1T? Or would you rather the Cayenne-based super-ute?
