Forget about coronavirus and watch a Skyline GT-R get detailed
Sunday, 22 March 2020
The world is in a bit of a state right now, so we figured we would bring a bit of calm to the furore. And what's more calming than watching a mint condition high-performance machine get a professional detail?
According to the description, this is 'the only brand new Nissan GTR Z-Tune in the world, recently restored and repainted in MNP3 by the Omori factory for V-Spec Performance.'
It sure is a thing of beauty in that Midnight Purple paint while those Nismo rims really look the business.
The title of the video claims this R34 is the most expensive in the world and, given only 20 Z-Tune's were built, we'd be inclined to believe it. Back in 2015, chassis #001 went up for sale for £400,000 (NZ$811,497) while chassis #009 asked £352,000 (NZ$714,118). It's not quite the most expensive GT-R, though.

Why so expensive? The 20 Z-Tune models were built in 2005, after R34 production had finished, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Nismo. Nissan's tuning house went all in on the special edition, swapping the standard 2.6-litre twin-turbocharged straight six for the 2.8-litre version found in Nismo's GT500 race car.
It made a huge 372kW at 6800rpm and it looks like someone at Nismo likes Spinal Tap because the tach goes right up to 11. A full 540Nm of torque matches that of a Ferrari 458.
Each engine was entirely hand built and, according to Top Gear, Nismo said at the time that neither cost nor production time were ever considerations.
Plenty of carbon fibre around the body countered creature comforts inside and resulted in a 1600kg kerb weight, identical to a regular R34 GT-R. Given the Z-Tune made around 70 per cent more power than the cooking GT-R (which isn't exactly a slouch), you'd expect it to be a handful to drive. But it actually doesn't look too bad, at least according to this Best Motoring video…
