Subaru details upcoming electrified Impreza

Wednesday, 19 February 2020

Subaru is working on adding electrification to its line-up, the first of which are arriving very soon in the form of the Forester and XV e-Boxer variants. Now, it looks like the next model to get the e-Boxer powertrain is the venerable Impreza.

Shown at an event in Europe, the Impreza e-Boxer uses the same 110kW/196Nm 2.0-litre petrol engine and 12.3kW/66Nm electric motor hybrid powertrain as the related Forester and XV models, with drive sent to all four corners through a CVT transmission.

Fuel consumption wasn't confirmed but expect it to come in beneath the Forester and XV's 6.7 and 6.5 respective litres per 100km.

In terms of design, the electrified Impreza won't get much special treatment. The exterior will be largely the same as the newly facelifted model with some unique badging, while the interior will retain the existing 8.0-inch touchscreen, digital driver display and additional vehicle data screen.
